Dr. Alvin Chan is a Lecturer in the Department of Accounting, Finance and Economics, Sunway Business School. He earned his PhD at Lancaster University, where he studied the evolution of financial capitalism, trust, and corporate governance in 19th‑century British joint‑stock banks. His interests span economic and business history, especially 19th‑century British banking and the political economy of development in East Asian economies. Dr. Chan’s work has appeared in Business History, a leading international journal in business and economic history, and he has presented at the Annual Conference of the Economic History Society (UK).
